HORFIELD ORGANIC COMMUNITY ORCHARD

Set up in 1998 on overgrown allotment land, the Orchard now contains over 70 apple, pear, plum & nut trees plus soft fruit. Working membership is open to Avon Organic Group and Horfield Allotment holders who meet penultimate Saturdays each month (except December and January) 2-4 pm

The annual fee is £5. Members are expected to attend a minimum of 5 working meetings or to contribute 10 hours work. Produce, which includes soft fruit such as rhubarb, gooseberries and currants, are shared at working meetings.

The trees in the orchard are mainly disease resistant varieties of eating apples to provide a range from early August until March. The Orchard has benches where people can sit and a polytunnel containing apricot and peach trees.

Friends of the Orchard

Friends need only support the Orchard by paying a subscription of £10 per year.

They will be sent newsletters and be invited to collect a minimum of £2.00 worth of orchard produce in the Autumn. Friends are also welcome to attend working meetings and events if and when they can.

Events held on the Orchard include a Wassail in January and Apple Day in October. Some training in pruning etc. is also given.

How to find the Orchard

The lane leading to the Orchard is opposite 23 Kings Drive, between Kellaway Avenue and Bishop Road.  Turn left and the entrance is through the first gate.

Gates are usually locked, so rattle the gate if we all have our heads down working!
